What is a Fundamentalist?

A couple of weeks ago our pastor took the time in his sermon to identify a fundamentalist as: Someone who has no fun and is a bit mental. I thought that was kind of interesting since he has referred to me and his assistant as fundys in the past. I also see this word come up a lot on Christian blogs which always makes things interesting.

Anyway, as you all know words and phrases many times are defined differently as we go through time. I have always thought of a fundamentalist as someone who likes to test God by handling rattle snakes and believes the King James version of the bible is the only good version. Just to be clear, I would disagree with both of those assessments especially after I was bitten by one of those rascals (just kidding). Sorry for that joke, I forgot I'm not supposed to have fun.

Well with that in mind, I would like to pose the question to all of you, what is a fundamentalist? This will give me an idea if anyone is actually reading this blog and also it will be interesting to see what you think.

Please don't be afraid to give your honest opinion, I don't think anyone will jump on you too hard.

I also plan to ask as many people as I can this same question and I'll post my research on that soon.

Well I guess either no one is reading this blog or you're a bunch of scaredy cats. I'm not sure on that spelling of s.c., that's the first time I've tried that one.

Hi. Just want to say that, in my opinion, a fundamentalist is one who believes the Bible is the Word of God and is to be taken literally. Also that scripture is the foundation or the fundamentals for life.

Hi Marc!

I just wanted to say "thank you" for standing firm in the faith and pursuing Truth. You have been a great encouragement to my Dad (ro-walkingthewalk.blogspot.com) in the past few months...and he's not the only one who would join you in your ministry in a heartbeat! :) May the Lord continue to bless your work as you continue to be faithful to Him.

For the love of Truth and the people of Scotland,
Sarah
