Bono has finally found what he's been looking for....Universalism.

I thought it was necessary to post this in regard to Bono because he is increasingly becoming the darling of the not so discerning evangelical church. I should note before I go on that in the early years of U2 (1980-1990) they cranked out some pretty good music but of late seem to be more in it for the money, at least the quality of the song writing would lead me to that conclusion. I would also say that Bono has done some pretty good things in making people aware of some pretty horrifying humanitarian disasters around the world. That being said, I also believe he is leading many people astray with his Universalist religious views. You say, oh I thought he was a Christian. Not unless you think you can be a Christian, Jew, Muslim, Hindu...all at the same time. This is a version of Christianity that is born in his brain, not in scripture, not even close. Christianity and those other (false religions) are mutually exclusive. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me". - John 14:6 I think Jesus was being extremely clear in that statement because there were Bono's back those days as well.
Check out this statement from Bono from a magazine interview, "Do you still believe that Jesus is the way? Doesn't that biblical injunction deny that followers of other religions can enter paradise?
Bono: I don't accept that. I don't accept that fundamentalist concept. I believe, what is it? "The way is as narrow as the eye of the needle," and all that. But I think that's just to keep the fundamentalists out.... (laughs) I never really accepted the whole "born again" tag. It's a great term, had it not been so abused. I accepted it on one level, in that I loved the idea of being reborn.... I think people should be reborn every day, man! You know, every day again and again and again! At 20 years old, this idea of "surrender every day," this idea of "dying to oneself" ... was so exciting! Then I came to America in 1981, the land of milk and the .357 Magnum. It blew my mind that this word "reborn" meant nothing."
Back when I first gave my life to Christ (1989), I read a lot of books on the New Age movement (mostly because I was sharing a townhouse with a wiccan witch and wanted to find out where he was coming from). What everyone of the authors predicted was that there would be a global push toward the unification of all world religions. As I look at the world today and see what is happening in the church, it appears that these predictions are coming to fruition and unfortunately the evangelical church has fallen asleep under the intoxication of materialism and the need for notoriety from the world. The church is also being polluted by a movement known as the 'Emerging Church' who's 'pope' Brian McLaren, denies the authority of scripture, and holds others such as Bono up as their patron saint. Check out this article which appeared on the Relevant Magazine website not too long ago. It was a chilling review of a recent U2 concert at Madison Square Garden in New York. I should also note that what came out of Bono's mouth was not a slip of the tongue or some weird mood swing, he said the exact same thing at their concert in Manchester, England back in June. I know this because we have friends that attended that concert. Anyway, check it out and then read your bible and pray.
